Sarah James

Sarah JamesSarah James has been recruiting for local, national and international nonprofit institutions and corporations since 1996 when she was recruited to Heidrick & Struggles' Nonprofit Practice. In 1999, she was asked to join Russell Reynolds Associates' Nonprofit Practice before seeking an opportunity to work at the exclusively nonprofit-based firm Phillips Oppenheim in 2001. A generalist, she has recruited executives for leading aid, advocacy, cultural, education, environmental, faith-based, healthcare, philanthropic and social service institutions.

Sarah began her career with the Peace Corps in Mauritania. She returned stateside to help co-found Public Allies, a national nonprofit that was awarded the Presidential National Service Medal by the first Clinton Administration. She subsequently helped launch a Latino community development credit union while still in Washington DC. In New York, Sarah developed and directed two business development programs for two mayors, assisting women and minority entrepreneurs and job creation, respectively. She also conceived and implemented for the Museum of African Art a convicted youth docent program as a joint partnership between the Museum and CASES.

Sarah received her bachelor's degree in rhetoric from the University of California at Berkeley. She is a former Board member of the New York Women’s Agenda.
